He also appeared in several British and American films.
He gained worldwide recognition in films such as "Shakespeare-wallah" and "Hot and Dust" produced by Merchant Ivory. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
