Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., born October 20, 1971, better known by his stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Lion, is a Grammy Award-nominated American rap music artist, record producer, and actor.

Snoop Dogg is known as a West Coast hip-hop MC and one of the names discovered by Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg was a member of the Crips gang while in high school, and shortly after graduation he was arrested for cocaine possession and served three years in prison.

Snoop Dogg started his music career in 1992; He accompanied Dre on several songs on his debut studio album, The Chronic. Snoop's solo album, Doggystyle, was released in 1993 on Death Row Records. Doggystyle went quadruple platinum and spawned hit singles such as "Who Am I (What's My Name?)" and "Gin & Juice."

His initial fame dates back to 1992 following his guest appearance on Dr. Dre's debut solo single, "Deep Cover", and later on Dre's debut album, The Chronic that same year. Broadus has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States, and 35 million albums worldwide. His accolades include an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and 17 Grammy Award nominations.

He was acquitted in 1996 of charges related to the 1993 death of Phillip Woldemariam. His second album, titled Tha Doggfather, released in 1996, was his last album released under the Death Row label before signing with No Limit Records, with whom he would release three albums from 1998 to 2001.

Snoop signed with Capitol Records in 2002 for his album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss, and in 2004 he joined Geffen Records for his next three albums. Snoop, along with his cousin Nate Dogg and rapper Warren G, formed a band called 213 and released an album in 2004. In 2009, it was announced that he became a member of the Nation of Islam.

On March 1, 2009, he attended the Nation of Islam's annual Saviors' Day celebration and praised Louis Farrakhan. Snoop donated $1,000 to the organization. He announced that he joined the Rastafari movement after his trip to Jamaica in 2012. Using his new stage name, Snoop Lion, he released a reggae album called Reincarnated and a documentary about his Jamaican experience.

Outside of music, Snoop Dogg has appeared in several movies and TV series and hosted several television shows: Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. He also coached the American football team named Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is banned in Australia and England due to some legal problems.
