The name of the Dolce & Gabbana brand comes from the friendship of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The friends, who became both life partners and business partners, met while working as assistants in a workshop in Milan.

These two friends, who nurtured their love of Baroque, were invited to a fashion show organized by the organizers of Milan Collezioni in 1985, and from that day on, this duo began to become famous. The following year, they held their first independent women's ready-to-wear show. Following these developments, the duo also ventured into men's clothing and released a perfume series bearing their signature.

In 1993, the duo created 1,500 costumes for Madonna's world tour, "The Girlie Show." They also prepared the costumes for the Whitney Houston tour in 1999.
