These two friends, who nurtured their love of Baroque, were invited to a fashion show organized by the organizers of Milan Collezioni in 1985, and from that day on, this duo began to become famous. The following year, they held their first independent women's ready-to-wear show. Following these developments, the duo also ventured into men's clothing and released a perfume series bearing their signature.

In 1999, they opened consecutive stores in Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and London. Dolce & Gabbana's designs are very colorful and animal patterns are frequently used. This design has been described as an “haute hippie”. The designs were particularly inspired by Italy's prestigious film history.

In 1993, the duo created 1,500 costumes for Madonna's world tour, "The Girlie Show." They also prepared the costumes for the Whitney Houston tour in 1999.
