She was Truss' minister, resigned; soon after, she became Rishi Sunak's minister: Who is Suella Braverman?
Pro-Palestinian demonstrations held in England after October 7 brought Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Home Affairs Minister Suella Braverman into conflict.
Braverman accused the London police of "taking sides" in an article she wrote. In the statement made by the Prime Ministry, he said: "It is not an agreed upon article."
Minister Braverman described the pro-Palestinian demonstrations as "hate marches" in his article published in the Times newspaper.
Braverman also called for the pro-Palestinian march planned for Saturday in the capital London to be prevented.
Accusing the police of applying "double standards", Braverman reminded that right-wing groups had previously banned marches and claimed that the London police "favored" solidarity marches with the Palestinian people.
Sue-Ellen Cassiana Braverman (born 3 April 1980) is a British politician and barrister who has been Home Secretary since 25 October 2022. She had previously held the position from 6 September to 19 October 2022 under Prime Minister Liz Truss. A member of the Conservative Party, she was chair of the European Research Group from 2017 to 2018 and Attorney General for England and Wales from 2020 to March 2021 and September 2021 to 2022. She became Member of Parliament (MP) for Fareham in 2015.
Braverman has called for action against similar marches many times before.
His own family is also an immigrant
Braverman comes from a family of Indian origin. Suella, the daughter of the Braverman family, who emigrated from India to Kenya and Mauritius and from there to England in the 1960s, was born in England.
His mother was a nurse and city councilor, his father worked for a housing association. Braverman is the nephew of the former British High Commissioner to Mauritius.
In 2018, she was appointed Minister of State for Exiting the European Union by Prime Minister Theresa May. She left this post to protest the Northern Ireland Protocol, which covers the lack of customs checks between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Ministry process: 19 October 2022
Braverman, appointed by Liz Truss 43 days ago, announced that she is leaving her post
In her resignation letter shared on Twitter, Braverman announced that he sent an official document using her personal e-mail and that she resigned from her position on the grounds that she technically violated the rules.
Braverman used the following statements:
"Earlier today, as part of policy engagement and with the aim of garnering support for government policy on immigration, I sent an official document from my personal email to a trusted colleague in parliament. This constitutes a technical breach of rules. As you know, the document will be published shortly after a Cabinet meeting on immigration "The article was a draft. The MPs had already been informed about most of it. Still, it would be right for me to resign."
Stating that she immediately reported her mistake to official channels as soon as she realized her mistake, Braverman noted that the right thing to do was to resign, considering her position as Minister of Internal Affairs.
Suella Braverman stated, "It is not a serious policy to act as if we have not made a mistake, to continue as if everyone cannot see what we have done, and to hope that everything will magically improve. I made a mistake, I accept responsibility and I resign."
Braverman served as the Attorney General of the United Kingdom from 13 February 2020 until 6 September 2022, when she was appointed Home Secretary.
