Who is Xi Jinping?

Xi Jinping (born June 1, 1953, Beijing) is a Chinese politician and president of China as of November 15, 2012, and general secretary of the central committee of the Communist Party of China.

Before starting his university education, he took part in the youth branch of the party in Shaanshi province between 1969-75. One of the most important elements in promotion within the Chinese Communist Party is taking part in the youth branches.

After completing his secondary education, Cinping continued his education at Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious universities in Beijing, and graduated from the Chemical Engineering Department there in 1979.

After graduating from college, he served as secretary of the central army committee office from 1979-82.

Between 1985 and 1988, he served as the deputy governor of the city of Shiam in Fucien province in the south of China. Until 1996, he held various positions in the Fucien state party organs.

From 1996-2002 he was deputy secretary of the Fucien state party committee.

Between 2002-07, he was the secretary of the party committee in Ciciang province.

He was appointed as the Vice President of the People's Republic of China on March 15, 2008.

As a result of the preparatory meetings of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held on November 7, 2012, he was appointed as the general secretary of the congress.

On March 14, 2013, he was elected President of the country. It has been the leader of China since 2013.
