Do you know the world's most famous comedian politicians?

The comedian candidates winning the elections in Italy, Iceland, Guatemala, Slovenia and Ukraine indicate that we are facing an interesting bottom wave. So, can a comedian become a politician?

Ukraine: Volodymyr Zelenski

Volodymyr Zelensky, who was elected president of Ukraine, is known as one of the best comedians in the country. He has no previous political experience; but he has experience starring in a popular television sitcom. Zelenskiy first became the darling of millions with the character of 'President Goloborodko' in the country's popular TV series 'Servant of the People'. “What would happen if an honest, principled and intelligent person from among the people was elected president?” The introduction of the TV series 'The Servant of the People' starring Volodymyr Zelensky was starting with these words.

Vasiliy Goloborodko, the history teacher played by Zelensky in the series, was elected president with the votes of the people who shrugged off this system. The character of 'President Goloborodko', who walked around the streets of the capital city by bicycle and fought against corruption without a bodyguard army, had become the darling of millions in the country. The TV series, whose rating reached 20 million, was watched by close to 100 million people on YouTube. The series has been translated into many different languages.

When the first season of the series 'Servant of the People' was broadcast, it probably did not cross the minds of many that Zelensky could one day be the head of state in real life.

But the series came true, Zelensky, the candidate of the People's Servant Party, declared his election victory by beating his rival Petro Poroshenko, one of the richest oligarchs in the country. Zelensky was elected president with the reaction votes of the Ukrainians, who were disappointed in Poroshenko's five-year rule, as well as those who identified him with the character of Goloborodko. The famous comedian, who accepted the role of the series in its success in the selection process, said, “Of course, the character I play and I are different people. But I have the same moral values as this character.”

During his campaign, Morales said, “I made you laugh for 20 years. He promised that if I am elected head of state, I will not cry.

Iceland: Jon Gnarr

Jón Gnarr is a well-known Icelandic comedian. A candid, anecdotal, and outspoken approach to political speech is what propelled Gnarr to his popularity in the wake of Iceland's 2008 financial crisis. Ahead of the 2010 mayoral election in the Icelandic capital, he formed a satirical political group of punk rockers called 'The Best Party' to mock Icelandic politics.

Gnarr was mayor of Reykjavik, home to a third of Iceland's population, from 2010 to 2014. He implemented some of his recommendations, including free towels in swimming pools, and approved the construction of Iceland's first mosque before deciding to resign. The comedian politician was expected to run for Iceland's presidency in 2016, but told reporters the position was not yet the right one for him. “I am not running for president right now, but I may want to do so at some point in the future,” Gnarr told reporters.

Italy: Beppe Grillo

Beppe Grillo became a comedian in the 1970s and appeared in variety shows on national television before getting her own national show. But late in his comedy career, he began publishing a blog with cruel jokes about mainstream Italian politicians.

In the early 2000s, she was a full-fledged activist. He frequently targeted corruption in Italy, making comparisons with American documentary filmmaker Michael Moore. “We are nothing like them,” Grillo told the Washington Post in 2012. "We are moderate, beautiful people, and we are the only thing standing between Italy and the real extremists," he said. Grillo himself has never held a political office, but the party he founded enjoyed considerable political success, becoming the largest party in the Italian parliament in 2018. The party's leader, Luigi Di Maio, served as deputy prime minister.
