His name is the origin of the word hypnosis: Who is Hypnos or Somnus?
In ancient Roman culture, the god of sleep, Somnus (Hypnos in Greek mythology), is depicted with a bowl of poppy juice or flowers in his hand. Hypnos is the twin brother of Thanatos, the god of death. Hypnos and Thanatos are the sons of Erebos, the god of darkness, and Nyks, the goddess of night.
